The awards for 1999/2000 theatre season
APRIL -2001- Great Hall of the “I.L.Caragiale” Theatre in Bucharest
The nominations were made by a selection jury formed of critics: Florica Ichim, Doina Modola, and Constantin Paraschivescu, and the final jury, designating the winners, was formed of Sanda Manu, university professor and director, Stefania Cenean, scenographer, Cristina Modreanu, theatre critic, Alexandru Darie, director, and Mircea Rusu, actor.

The Award for Best Show

  • Saragossa 66 Days (Saragosa 66 de zile) by Alexandru Dabija, after Jan Potocki, directed by: Alexandru Dabija, Odeon Theatre and SMART
  • The Lost Letter (O scrisoare pierduta) by I.L.Caragiale, directed by: Alexandru Tocilescu, I.L.Caragiale National Theatre. – WINNER
  • The Misanthropist (Mizantropul) by Moliere, directed by: Tompa Gábor, State Hungarian Theatre, Cluj-Napoca

The Award for Best Director

  • Felix Alexa, for the show “Krecinski’s Wedding” („Nunta lui Krecinski“) by Suhovo-Kobilin, (I.L.Caragiale National Theatre)
  • Claudiu Goga, for the shows “A Criminal’s Portrait” („Portret de criminal“) by S. Mrozek and “Marriage Proposal” („Cerere de casatorie“) by A.P.Cehov (Sica Alexandrescu Theatre, Brasov).
  • Anca Bradu, for the show “The Arrival of Spring” („Desteptarea primaverii“) by Frank Wedekind (National Theatre, Targu Mures and The Tompa Miklós Company – WINNER

The Award for Best Actor

  • Stefan Iordache, for the lead part in the show „Barrymore“ by Wiliam Luce (I.L.Caragiale National Theatre) – WINNER
  • Marcel Iures for the lead part in the show “Hamlet“ by W. Shakespeare (L.S.Bulandra Theatre)
  • Valentin Uritescu, for the part Raspuev in the show “Krecinski’s Wedding” („Nunta lui Krecinski“) by Suhovo-Kobilin (I.L.Caragiale National Theatre)

The Award for Best Actress

  • Mihaela Arsenescu Werner, for the parts Ogudalova in the show “The Portionless Girl” („Fata fara zestre“) by A.N.Ostrovski and Eliza in the show “The Seagull” (“Pelicanul”) by A. Strindberg (Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre, Iasi)
  • Magda Mugur, for the part Mrs Ponza in the show “That’s how it is (if it looks like that to you)” („Asa este (daca vi se pare)“ by Luigi Pirandello (National Theatre, Craiova)
  • Oana Pellea, for the part Catarina in the show “The Taming of the Shrew” („Imblanzirea scorpiei“) by William Shakespeare (L.S.Bulandra Theatre) – WINNER

The Award for Best Scenography

  • Dragos Buhagiar and Irina Solomon, for the show “Saragossa 66 Days” („Saragosa 66 de zile“) by Alexandru Dabija after Jan Potocki (Odeon Theatre and SMART) and for the scenographic setting during the Humorror Festival, Odeon Theatre
  • Helmut Stürmer and Lia Mantoc, for the show “That’s how it is (if it looks like that to you)” („Asa este (daca vi se pare)“ by Luigi Pirandello (National Theatre, Craiova) – WINNER
  • Sever Frentiu and Anca Paslaru, for the show “The Lost Letter” („O scrisoare pierduta“) by I.L.Caragiale (I.L.Caragiale National Theatre)

The Award fot Theatre Critique

  • Alice Georgescu – for the activity in the domain of theatre critique – WINNER
  • Stefan Oprea – for the critique activitiy and the volume “Eminescu – the Theapre man” („Eminescu-omul de teatru“)
  • Alexandru Firescu and Constantin Gheorghiu – for the volume “The History of the National Theatre in Craiova” („Istoria Teatrului National din Craiova“)

The Award for Debut

  • Dan Vasile for directing the show “The Seagull” („Pelicanul“) by A. Strindberg (VasileAlecsandri National Theatre, Iasi)
  • Clara Flores for the part Mrs Ina Terre in the show “To Dallas” („La Dallas“) by Oliver Bukovski (Tineretului Theatre, Piatra Neamt)
  • Marius Chivu for the part Henric II in the show „Thomas a Becket“ by Jean Anouilh (L.S.Bulandra Theatre) – WINNER

The Award for Radio Theatre

  • “Waiting for 59 minutes” („59 de minute de asteptare“) by Charles Charras, directed by: Ion Vova – WINNER
  • Fantastic Dialogue (Dialog fantanstic) after  “Poor Dionis’ Thoughts” („Cugetarile sarmanului Dionis“) by Mihai Eminescu and “The Raven” („Corbul”) by Edgar Allan Poe, directed by: Gavril Pinte
  • „Grand Hotel“ by Gabriela Pantel, directed by: Mihai Lungeanu

The Award of the Romanian Section of the International Association of Theatre Critics

The Romanian Section of the International Association of Theatre Critics (AICT) grants the Critics’ Award: „12 people for the generation 2000“to a group of young creators who made the theatrical year 2000 sparkle:
