The awards for 1997/1998 theatre season
APRIL 1999 – Great Hall of the “I.L.Caragiale” Theatre in Bucharest
THE NOMINATIONS for the 1996-1997 UNITER AWARDS were made by a selection JURY made up of the following critics: Cristina Dumitrescu, Florica Ichim and Constantin Paraschivescu
The final JURY, which designates the WINNERS OF THE UNITER AWARDS from these nominations, is made up of: Stefania Cenean (scenographer), Mircea Ghitulescu (theatre critic), Catalin Naum (director), Marian Popescu (theatre critic), Ilinca Tomoroveanu (actress).

The Award for Best Show

  • King Richard II by W. Shakespeare, directed by: Mihai Maniutiu, I.L.Caragiale National Theatre and SMART
  • The Cherry Orchard (Livada de visini) by A.P.Chekhov, directed by: Vlad Mugur, Hungarian State Theatre, Cluj-Napoca – WINNER
  • Teibele and her demon (Teibele si demonul ei) after Isaac Bashevis Singer, directed by: Alexandru Hausvater, Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre, Iasi

The Award for Best Director

  • Mihai Maniutiu for the show “King Richard II” by W. Shakespeare (I.L.Caragiale National Theatre and SMART) – WINNER
  • Alexandru Darie for the show „1794“ after Camil Petrescu, Georg Büchnrt and Peter Weiss (L.S.Bulandra Theatre).
  • Victor Ioan Frunza for the show „Lorenzaccio“ by Alfred de Musset (Csiky Gergely Theatre, Timisoara)

The Award for Best Actor

  • Cornel Scripcru for the parts Robespierre in the show “1794“ and Petru in the show “Petru“ by Vlad Zografi (L.S.Bulandra Theatre)
  • Marcel Iures for the leading part in the show “King Richard II“ by W. Shakespeare (I.L.Caragiale National Theatre) – WINNER
  • Bogdán Zsolt for the parts Lopahin in the show “The Cherry Orchard” („Livada de visini“) by A.P.Chekhov and Tersit in the show „Troilus and Cressida“ by W. Shakespeare (State Hungarian Theatre, Cluj-Napoca)

The Award for Best Actress

  • Olga Tudorache for the part The Queen in the show “Queen Mom” („Regina Mama“), by Manlio Santanelli (I.L.Caragiale National Theatre) – WINNER
  • Valeria Seciu for the part Mary Cavan-Tyrone in the show “Long Day’s Journey into Night” („Lungul drum al zilei catre noapte“), by Eugene O’Neill (Nottara Theatre)
  • Mariana Mihut for the part Nikita Zotov in the show “Petru“, by Vlad Zografi (L.S.Bulandra Theatre)

The Award for Best Scenography

  • Doina Levitntza for the show “King Richard II“ by William Shakespeare (I.L.Caragiale National Theatre and SMART) – WINNER
  • Maria Miu for the show „1794“ after Camil Petrescu, Georg Büchner and Peter Weiss (L.S.Bulandra Theatre)
  • Irina Solomon and Dragos Buhagiar, for the show “Long Day’s Journey into Night” („Lungul drum al zilei catre noapte“) by Eugene O’Neill (Nottara Theatre)

  • Bogdan Talasman for the parts in the shows “Scandal with the audience” („Scandal cu publicul“) by Peter Handke, debut also confirmed in “The Prince from a Tear” („Printul din lacrima) by Radu Macrinici and “The Closed Door” („Usa inchisa“) by Graham Reid (Tineretului Theatre, Piatra Neamt)
  • Dan Radulescu for the part in the show “I Whistle whenever I feel like whistling” („Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier“) by Andreea Valean (National Theatre, Targu Mures)

The Award for Radio Theatre

  • Domus Domini by Monica Patriciu and Cristina Sarbu, directed by: Leonard Popovici
  • Kaviar, Vodka and bye-bye (Caviar, votca si bye-bye) by George Astalos, directed by: Dan Puican – WINNER
  • Tango, monsieur by Aldo lo Castro, directed by: Mihai Lungeanu

The Award for TV Theatre

  • Under the Moonlight (Sub clar de luna) after the play “Fools under the Moonlight” („Prostii sub clar de luna“) by Teodor Mazilu, written for the television by: Dominic Dembinski
  • Incompatible disease (Boala incompatibila) after the play “Incompatible disease” („Boala incompatibila”) by Tudor Popescu, written for the television by: Constantin Dicu
  • Everything’s just a game (Totul e un joc) after the play “Everything’s just a game” („Totul e un joc“) by Paul Ioachim, written for the television by: Cornel Todea WINNER

The Award of the Romanian Section of the International Association of Theatre Critics

The Romanian Section of the International Association of Theatre Critics (AICT) grants the Critics’ Award: to the team of artists working for the staging of the show “Toujours l’amour” from the I.L.Caragiale National Theatre:
