Edition 14

The awards for the year 2005
MONDAY, APRIL 3, 2006, – „Ion Luca Caragiale“ Hall of the National Theatre in Bucharest.
The selection jury appointed to make the nominations for this edition of the UNITER Awards Gala was made up of the critics Magdalena Boiangiu, Ion Cazaban, Andreea Dumitru, Cristina Modreanu and Mircea Morariu. The final jury, which designates the WINNERS OF THE UNITER AWARDS from these nominations, is made up of: Nina Brumusila, scenographer, Claudiu Goga, director, Ion Parhon, theatre critic, Elisabeta Pop, theatre critic, Emilia Popescu, actress.

NOMINATIONS:

The Award for Best Show

  • Waiting for Godot (Asteptandu-l pe Godot), by Samuel Beckett at „Tamási Áron” Theatre in Sfantu Gheorghe (directed by: Tompa Gabor)
  • A Dog’s Heart (Inima de caine) after Mihail Bulgakov at the National Theatre in Bucharest (directed by:Yuriy Kordonskiy)
  • Woyzeck by Georg Büchner at the State Hungarian Theatre, Cluj (directed by: Mihai Maniutiu) – WINNER

The Award for Best Director

  • Radu Afrim for the show “Modelling Clay” („Plastilina“) by Vasili Sigariov at „Toma Caragiu” Theatre, Ploiesti – WINNER

  • Adriana Grand for the scenography of the show „Scaunele“ de Eugène Ionesco la Teatrul German de Stat Timisoara – WINNER
  • Iuliana Valsan for the scenography of the show “The Cherry Orchard” („Livada de visini“) by A.P.Chekhov – National Theatre in Targu Mures –Tompa Miklós Company

The Award for Radio Theatre

  • Amali Breathes Deep (Amalia respira adanc), by Alina Nelega, directed by Gavril Cadariu, produced by the Radio Studio in Targu Mures
  • Diagnostic, written and directed by Ilinca Stihi, produced by the Entertainment Theatre Department – Romanian Broadcasting Society
  • Catherine the Great (Ecaterina cea Mare) by George Bernard Shaw, directed by Cezarina Udrescu, produced by the Entertainment Theatre Department – Romanian Broadcasting Society – WINNER

The Award for TV Theatre

  • The jury did not make any nominations for the TV Theatre section because there were only three proposals meeting the conditions to participate in the UNITER Awards Gala, namely:
  • Alexandru Sutto’s Choice (Alegerea lui Alexandru Sutto) by Dumitru Crudu, directed by Dominic Dembinski – produced by TVR – WINNER
  • Money for a Return Journey (Bani de dus, bani de intors) by Dumitru Dinulescu, directed by Alexandru Tocilescu – produced by TVR
  • Everlasting Youth and the Golden Apples (Tinerete fara batranete si merele de aur), written and directed by Tudor Chirila – co-production of Ariel Theatre in Targu Mures and TVR

These plays were juried by the final Jury of the Awards Gala.

The Award of Honor:

  • George Banu, for his exceptional activity in the field of international theatre critics and research and for promoting the values of Romanian theatre within the European cultural circuit.

The Critics’ Award:

  • actress Ada Milea, for the lucid and critical attitude towards the present, by the original combination of satire with music and poetry in the contemporary show.

The Diploma for Excellence:

  • theatre scientists Alina Moldovan and Tamara Susoi, for the modern way of promoting the image of Odeon Theatre and for the value of the projects open to innovative forms in performing arts.

The Jury was formed of the A.I.C.T. Office – Romanian Section: Ludmila Patlanjoglu (president), Alice Georgescu (vice-president), Ion Cazaban (secretary), Florica Ichim, Natalia Stancu, Cristina Modreanu, Andreea Dumitru (members).
