The Awards for the year 2009

The 18th edition of the UNITER Awards Gala was held on MONDAY, APRIL 19, 2010 in Studio 3 of the Romanian Television.
The nominees were selected by a jury made up of theatre critics Ion Cocora, Mircea Morariu and Doina Papp, and the final jury, the one who designated the winners on the night of the Gala, consisted of: Marina Constantinescu,  theatre critic;  Florica Ichim, theatre critic;  Mihai Mădescu, scenographer;  Valeria Seciu, actress; Cornel Todea,  director.

The Award for Debut

  • Cristina Florea for the part Tyler in the show Some Girls (Nişte fete) staged at „George Ciprian” Theatre, Buzău
  • David Schwartz for directing the show Kisses, Romania! (România, te pup!) staged at „Vasile Alecsandri” National Theatre, Iaşi
  • Crina Semciuc for the part Lena in the show Leonce and Lena (Leonce şi Lena) staged at the Comedy Theatre (Teatrul de Comedie), Bucharest

Best Scenography

  • Ştefan Caragiu for the scenery of the show The Anniversary (Aniversarea) staged at  „Nottara” Theatre, Bucharest
  • Adriana Grand for the scenery of the show Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (Rosencrantz şi Guildenstern sunt morţi) staged at  „Csiky Gergely” Hungarian Theatre, Timişoara
  • Iuliana Vâlsan for the scenery of the show Herr Paul staged at Tineretului Theatre, Piatra Neamţ

Best Actor in a Supporting Part

  • József Bíró for the part Cebutikin in the show Three Sisters (Trei surori) staged at Nord Theatre – Hungarian section, Satu Mare

  • “Frenzy for Two or More” („Delir în doi… în trei, în câţi vrei”) by Eugène Ionesco, directed by Attila Vizauer at SRR
  • “On the Feeling of Elasticity When Stepping over Dead Bodies” („Despre senzaţia de elasticitate când păşim peste cadavre”) by Matei Vişniec, directed by Mihai Lungeanu at SRR 

The Awards offered by the UNITER Senate

The Award for Excellence

  • offered to Silviu Purcărete (director and writer), Helmut Stürmer (scenographer-scenery), Lia Manţoc (scenographer-costumes), Vasile Şirli (composer), Andu Dumitrescu (scenographer-video effects) for the international impact of the show „Faust” after Goethe („Radu Stanca” National Theatre Sibiu) at the Edinburgh Festival 2009.

The Award for Lifelong achievement:

Special Award for Non-verbal Performance

  • Gigi Căciuleanu for his entire artistic career

The Award for theatre criticism, selected by the Management office of the Romanian Section of the International Association of Theatre Critics (AICT)

  • To the show Quartet staged at „Vasile Alecsandri” National Theatre, Iaşi, for the brilliant way in which actors: Violeta Popescu, Mihaela Arsenescu Werner, Florin Mircea and Sergiu Tudose managed to highlight the qualities of the play.
